In our Barber Course, you’ll begin by learning a foundation of cutting and styling techniques that will quickly progress to encompass advanced skills and relevant topics that will put you in a position to succeed in today’s barbering industry.

600 Hour Barber Cirriculum
Our comprehensive curriculum is custom written and mapped around topics and skills directly requested by employers and industry professionals. You’ll be challenged creatively and technically with opportunities to excel. Throughout the program, you’ll also refine your industry and business skills through a challenging professional development curriculum covering topics including leadership, communication, public speaking, professional etiquette and more. The objective of the Barber Course is to train students in all aspects of the barbering profession. The student will acquire skills in haircutting, hair styling, tapering, trimming of the beard and mustaches, men’s hairpieces, scalp treatments, facials, shampooing, shop management and state licensing laws.

State Board Preparation & Licensing Laws
Upon completion of the Sharp Edgez Barber Institute curriculum and full payment is received for the program a certificate of completion will be issued to the student and he/she will be eligible to take the New York State Board Exam. After successfully passing the New York State Board Exam, the student will be issued a Barber Operator License (Master Barber License). Students who complete their program and pass the New York State Board Exam will be qualified to pursue a variety of opportunities in the professional field of barbering.

Contagious Disease Prevention
All new applicants who wish to apply with the State of New York as a Barber Operator or a Barber Apprentice and all individuals who wish to renew an existing Barber Operator License or Barber Apprentice License must complete a program of study on the "transmission of contagious diseases and the proper methods of sanitation and sterilization to be employed in barber shops".
